Over the years, CODE-NGO has become a vital nerve center of its membership. It is evolving into a major resource and reference center for NGOs and POs, for government, the academe, the donor community, foreign NGOs and other solidarity groups, as well as visiting foreign researchers. The office of the network's secretariat houses a wealth of reference materials from both national and international sources -- from government, donors and multilateral agencies.

The network, in year 2000, has embarked upon a vigorous effort to compile what is perhaps the most comprehensive profiling directory of development NGOs in the country. The NGO profiling project was completed recently and plans are underway to upload the directory in this website.

As a whole, CODE-NGO serves as a mechanism for:

- building consensus on development issues and on the trajectory of development work;
- establishing and upholding standards for development work;
- participating in forming public policy and engaging government at various levels;
- promoting innovations in community development work and in development finance; and
- linking Filipino NGOs with the international development community.

CODE-NGO draws strength from its networks at the regional level. Recognizing the importance of decentralizing and democratizing its structure, CODE-NGO has sought to attract regional NGO formations to its ranks. It also encourages the formation of regional NGO associations in parts of the country where these do not exist.

Despite the many gains over the years, CODE-NGO is still in the process of evolving into the kind of coalition that was envisioned at its inception. CODE-NGO is looking forward to mobilizing the full and dynamic participation of all of its member-networks in its programs and projects. Moreover, the coalition continues to move within a community that is in many ways still reeling from the momentous changes that have taken place within the country and around the globe. In many ways, the development community has been slow to adopt to its new environment, and the process is understandably expected to be long and painful.
