The World Bank Releases its Initial Public Information Document on Judicial Reform Support Project
Under consideration for World Bank assistance, the proposed project hopes to achieve the objective of promoting a justice system geared to achieving the goal of delivering fair, impartial, and swift justice, by: strengthening the capacity of the Supreme Court to administer the judiciary; improving case adjudication and access to justice; enhancing the integrity infrastructure of the judiciary; and supporting reform outreach activities, knowledge sharing and the Program Management Office of the Supreme Court.

After a year of implementing the Localized Anti-Poverty Monitoring Project, CODE-NGO is proud to present the "Minimum Basic Needs-Community-Based Poverty Indicators Management System." This database contains the results of the exhaustive surveys conducted in the four poverty stricken pilot sites namely
Abra, Catanduanes, Guimaras and Compostela Valley.

CODE-NGO celebrates 10 years of work dedicated to social development. Recently, the National Secretariat began the preparations for the Social Development Week celebration which will be held on 24-30 November 2001. Member networks and NGOs led by the Association of Foundations (AF), Ateneo Center for Social Policy and Public Affairs
(ACSPPA), the Philippine Business for Social Progress, the Center for Community Services and the fellows of the Succesor Generation Project man the different committees created for the project.
The weeklong celebrations will showcase the contribution of development organizations to the progress of the country. CODE-NGO alone has over 2000 NGOs, POs and coop-members nationwide comprising almost half of all the development organizations in the country. Other national alliances and networks of civil society organizations will be invited to actively participate in the Trade Fair, Symposia and Development Education Campaign. This will be a grand reunion and a venue to commemorate the gains of civil society in advancing democracy and development work in the Philippines.

Senate President Franklin
Drilon, Ayala Corporation's Jaime Augusto Zobel De Ayala, civil society's Mary Racelis and CODE-NGO's Chairperson Marissa Camacho-Reyes among others comprise the new Steering Committee of the Trisectoral Conference. They met on 6 August 2001 to discuss the thrust of the tri-partite collaboration. Among the issues that the new Steering Committee would like to pursue are local governance, macro-competitiveness and housing.

The Commission on Internal Reform Initiatives
(CIRI) recently released the DRAFT of the Revised Covenant on Philippine Development. From August to September 2001, the CODE-NGO member networks will conduct consultations with their respective member NGOs. The draft Covenant will be finalized in the 10th National Assembly. The signing of the Covenant is one of the highlights of the 3rd National Congress.
