Social
Development Week, 24-30 November 2001
This year, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, CODE-NGO will celebrate a
decade of work dedicated to social development. Being the biggest and the most
ambitious coalition of NGOs ever formed in the history of development work,
CODE-NGO proposes to take the lead in the celebration of achievements of
development organizations in the country. As the organization did in 1998,
CODE-NGO proposes to host a Social Development Week which will culminate in the
3rd National Congress.
The Social Development Week will
showcase the contribution of development organizations to the progress of the
country. CODE-NGO alone has over 2000 NGOs, POs and coop-members nationwide
comprising almost half of all the development organizations in the country.
Other national alliances and networks of civil society organizations will be
invited to actively participate in the Trade Fair, Symposia and Development
Education Campaign.
The weeklong celebration will be a grand reunion
and a venue to commemorate the gains of civil society in advancing democracy and
development work in the Philippines.

Activity Area, Ayala Center, Makati City
All-Filipino handicrafts and other
products from different communities and people's organizations will be put on
sale (tiangge style). These products shall demonstrate the communities and the
PO's capability to support themselves as well as participate in the mainstream
economy. Department stores and commercial distributors will be invited to expose
them to community groups for potential business tie-ups. Interested parties may

Social Development Exhibit, 24-28 November 2001
Glorietta
Activity Area, Ayala Center, Makati City
The exhibit will highlight the gains
and breakthroughs of social development work in the Philippines as well as the
potentials of the NGO and PO community. NGOs, networks, government agencies,
donors and multilateral agencies will each have their own photo exhibit, book
sale, poster and video display, film showing of recent historical events such as
People Power II. They will also present completed, as well as ongoing, social
development projects.
All these activities will be a development

Development Education Campaign, October - November 2001
The affair shall be preceded by several months of development education campaign
through mass media on social development and the Social Development Week.
Companies shall be asked to sponsor mass media advertising slots while
NGO-friendly media practitioners shall be asked to provide media support. Online
media (website and online discussion forum) will also be used extensively.

Social
Involvement Campaign, October - November 2001
Year 2001 is also the International
Year of Volunteers (IYV). In line with the theme "Kasali Ka, Sumali
Ka," CODE-NGO together with Philippine Association for Volunteer Efforts
(PAVE) and www.pinoy-rin.net (through
online volunteerism website: www.ivolunteer.ph
) will launch a nationwide volunteerism campaign. The campaign encouraging our
fellow Filipinos to get involved in nation-building will begin on October 2001.

Development Forum Series, 26 - 29 November 2001
During the week, there will be fora
on issues of interest to development NGOs, POs, the government, donor agencies,
corporate foundations, the youth sector, the urban poor communities and the
general public. The Development Forum Series will feature dialogues between the
several sectors of society. The series is open to participants from the

3rd National
Congress, 30 November 2001

The 3rd CODE-NGO National Congress is
a venue for the more than 2,500 member NGOs, POs and cooperatives of CODE-NGO to
reflect on its gains and learnings for the past 10 years. Member networks are
expected to renew their commitment to the new Covenant for Philippine
Development and Code of Conduct for Development NGOs as well as define its Grant
Strategy for the next ten years.
